XML sitemaps are a must in google’s eyes for SEO purposes, so this one is a no brainer.

Dagon Design Sitemap Generator:
Generates a fully customizable sitemap. Unlike XML sitemaps this is for your sites visitors not purely the search engines.

Robots SEO:
This plugin gives you awesome control over your robots meta tags to your pages and feeds, disabled unused archives and unfollow unnecessary links. Works very well together with Platinum SEO.

WordPress Duplicate Content Cure:
Prevent search engines from indexing duplicate content if you choose, like archives and category pages.

SEO Slugs:
Automatically removes common (stop) words like ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘in’ from post slugs to improve SEO.

SEO Smart Links:
Provides even more automatic SEO benefits for your site in addition to custom keyword lists, nofollow and much more.

Yoast Breadcrumbs:
Outputs a fully customizable breadcrumb path. For those who don’t know what the term “breadcrumb” means it’s the little navigation elements like you see on these forums that say “Black Hat SEO > Black Hat SEO > Blogging”, apart from being great for site visitors to enhance navigation, they also provide a good internal link structure which helps for SEO.

All in One Adsense and YPN:
Inserts Adsense or YPN code in to your blog posts. Really easy to use, great plugin.

Pretty Link:
Gives me the ability to create awesome looking affiliate links like “your-site.com/product-name/ or yoursite.com/recommended/product-name” or whatever I want for that matter in just a few clicks! Add clickthrough statistics to your dashboard, automatically no-follow your links, etc… One of my favourite plugins!

WP Review Site:
Allows you to turn your wordpress installation into a full blown review site complete with user reviews. Fully customizable CSS lets me integrate this into my theme seamlessly. I payed good money for this plugin and I don’t regret it for a second.

Add Sig:
Allows me to add a custom signature at the end of my posts with the authors information, or my preferred choice… and opt-in box. =)

Social Plugins:

Add To Any:
Helps readers share, bookmark and email your posts and pages with practically any service imaginable and has a sexy looking button. Easily customized but needs no configuration out of the box unlike sociable. Nuff’ said.

Sexy Bookmarks:
Another option to Add To Any. Only use one per site obviously, choose whichever one you like best, I pick which one suits my sites theme the best on every site I create.

Twitter Tools:
Barely used it to be honest, but seems that this is the accepted best tool for integrating twitter and wordpress.

Statistics Plugin:

Statpress Reloaded:
Easily the best stats plugin that I’ve seen for wordpress. Includes real time stats, nice bar charts, lots of sub lists like top 10 referred URL’s and stuff like that and highly customizable. Way better than the original statpress, wassup and shits all over the “wordpress stats” plugin.

Other Very Useful Plugins:

Akismet (Duh!):
Stop spam comments.

Max BlogPress Ping Optimizer (Nulled Version):
Stops your blog from getting tagged as ping spammer. You can use the nulled version that you can get on these forums in the download sections, which stops you from having to register your email address with Max Blog Press. Must have plugin. Goes great with the fat ping list I’ve included below.

Query Posts:
A widget that allows you to show posts/pages in any way you’d like on your site. My favorite use for it is as an “articles” sidebar list – and I exclude the “Product Reviews” category on my site so actual content doesn’t get mixed up with sales messages.

WordPress Automatic Upgrade:
Works great for upgrading wordpress versions. Great plugin.

WordPress Database Backup:
On-demand backup of your WordPress Blog and all your content.

WP Super Cache:
Makes your blog cache faster. Since page load times are SEO factor this also should theoretically help with your search engine rankings.

Exec-PHP:
Executes php code in your posts, pages and text widgets. Tons of possibilities if you know a little basic PHP for stuff like split testing, ad rotation, etc…

Well, that’s my list. I hope you guys found this useful and get some value from it. I sure love the power and flexibility these plugins give me. I realize this is a pretty huge list, so do what I did – try the plugins one at a time or as needed.

P.S. Here’s the ping list I currently use. My current perspective on using ridiculously huge ping lists is that you’re site CAN get flagged for “ping spamming” which is obviously a bad thing. This list is what I currently use which I believe strikes a nice balance.
